Domicile - Kasarna

Domicile was a mixed-media virtual space installation presented at Kasarna Karlin in Prague. It was a suspension of queer wooden frames of houses, encrusted with beads, paint and glitter, alongside an oculus virtual space display that presented the houses in a state of falling apart and floating in an obscure dark space. The installation was a nostalgic recollection of home that were abandoned due to being under water, due to rain, flooding and other climatic reasons.

Virtual Component

Using an oculus headset and Unity VR software, I displayed the virtual scene at Kasarna Karlin. Softwares used were Photoshop, 3Ds max, and the Unity Engine.

I used photographed stained rice paper textures to create translucent and tinted flowing lights and shapes, as well as mapped them on the modeled house structures, such as doors, windows, frames and roofs present in the virtual space. The sunken, floating, flickering, dreamlike ethereal models were complimented by real-world materials of wood, glitter and beads, in the form of suspended models of houses hung from translucent thread. The dual correlation of houses coming apart in the virtual and the physical was to amount a representation of what water forms do when they come in contact with physical materials of civilization.
