Beyond pERCEPTION
Perception was a series of paintings of the village of Karlštejn made using rice paper and ink. It was displayed at the exhibition Beyond Organic, presented at the Hybernska Collective, Prague. These paintings were accompanied by a virtual component displayed through the Oculus Rift, and made using the Unity Engine, 3Ds max and Photoshop.
The virtual display contained houses which were modeled based on real-world counterparts located in the village of Karlštejn. The were made in 3Ds Max and subsequently placed and textured in Unity using textures made of rice paper and ink, in order to create a Unity Space that represented my memory of walking in that particular neighborhood, on that specific day.
The virtual Component
The artwork uses both real and digital manifestations of artistic media, thus trying to implement itself into a multifaceted installation, where the audience is drawn to make a choice of visuality. This visuality is the distinction between organic and inorganic media, which is the basis of the artform. Specific members of the audience may choose to perceive only the visual basis of the organic platform of the installation, in contrast other members may choose to perceive only the digital.
Possibly, many would choose to perceive both out of interest in both visualities, which is what I desired at the time. This dual perception of organically and inorganically rendered space comprehensively attempts to disclose the organic space of the millennial. This organic space is mutated into something inorganic, or vice versa, both are a myth.
